AHMCC, who are promoting 2017 SAMCA Road Race Championships out of Mt Torrens next Sunday 17 September, advise that all races will be RACE NEUTRAL to the top of the first climb out of Mt Torrens. The aim is to prevent groups breaking up so early in the race and to encourage more entries.
Make your entry via the SAMCA website before 9pm Wednesday evening 13 September.
See attached FLYER for details.
In line with Southern Vets policy to support a local community organisation each year with a significant donation, Kangarilla CFS accepted $1000 from the Club on 7 August as our 2017 recipient. President David Milne, Secretary Frank Schoen and Treasurer Richard Tormet fronted up on a dark and cool evening to make the presentation.
Subsequent to the presentation, David was able to re-connect one of the CFS members, Bob Sadleir, with his old friend and past Southern Vet stalwart Steve Hazell, who has lived in Japan for a number of years. Another service Southern Vets has provided!
On behalf of Robert Freak:
Firstly I want to acknowledge what a terrific club Southern Vets is in caring for its members. It is now three years since my accident. How much I appreciate the Southern Vets riders on that day who did CPR and kept me alive, and all those who have contacted or visited me during the 15 months in the three hospitals, as well as since I’ve come home, and of course those who came to my birthday party.
I would like to shout a coffee & muffin at morning tea (10.30 am) on Thursday 31 August at the Glenelg coffee spot Crema to whoever turns up.
I then intend and feel ready to visit the crash site for the first time.
Thank you to all of you and I look forward to getting to some more races.
Please see BurfordHill2017v2 for details of next Open which is promoted by AHMCC and headquartered at Mt Torrens. StartlistBurfordHillOpen Note this is a draft. Final list will be posted on AHMCC website by 4pm Saturday.
As one of our major sponsors for the club, Goggleman are letting us know that all this month they are holding a clearance sale. They have lots of specials on all their cycling eyewear including 20% off Oakley and Adidas and up to 50% of SH+. They will also offer to those who need prescription 10% off your lenses. Now is the time to come and see Goggleman. The offer ends June 30th.
Our sponsors make a huge difference to our racing, so it’s important to support them where we can. Make sure you mention you’re with the Southern Vets.

There will be Marshal Training after the race on Sunday coming 11 June 2017, presented by our Club member and SA Police Officer Greg Jackson. All Club members (who have not paid the non-marshal fee) will be rostered to marshal at some time because marshals are required each week to make our racing possible. To marshal it is a requirement, with a few exceptions, to have SA Police-accredited training.
Riders who have not undertaken the training previously should try to attend, and for previously trained members it is a good refresher. If you weren’t intending to race it could be a good excuse to come out and blow off the winter cobwebs!

Next week’s race (9 July) is AHMCC Invitation GSRs out of Lobethal. Enter as usual on our online and entries will be passed on. Race start 0900, registration from 0800 at Lobethal Centennial Hall.

The course below is full but we are on a list to be notified asap when the next course is being offered. We will update members at that time.
Southern Vets have been invited to nominate participants for a FREE First Aid Training Course through the City of Onkaparinga. The Course will take place on Thursday 8 June 2017, 8.30am-5pm at the City of Onkaparinga, Noarlunga Office ‘Civic Area’.
Southern Vets hosted the SAMCA 2017 Individual Time Trial Championships on Sunday 28 May. Our thanks go to all the contributors/officials who helped make the event a safe success. Thanks also to the other Vets clubs who lent equipment and signage. Well done all!
On Sunday 7 May 2017, 86 riders (of 93 nominees) competed in the very successful Bike Station Open GSRs. 8 grades competed safely for the 32 prizes available to win. The day was fine, cool and relatively wind-free for Milang, which made for fast averages and generally compact grades at the finishes in both the 40km and 80km events.
Our thanks go to all the volunteer officials, some of whom had multiple (stressful) jobs. Well done folks, really appreciate your efforts.
We also heartily thank Noel and his team at Bike Station for supporting our Club at Milang for a fourth successive year. All members are urged to support Bike Station in return by visiting Noel for their cycling purchases! Be sure to let Noel know that you are a Southern Vet.
