Club Handicap Course 7B

Back to McLaren Flat this week for a solid workout on course 7B. Well done to all those who competed in the Open last week.

After our race on Sunday, we’ve got a 30 minute training session which teaches “compressions only” CPR and includes Automated External Defibrillator (AED) familiarisation and activation.  The rationale supporting this vital program evolves from the disappointing statistics which indicate that a person who experiences a sudden “out of hospital” cardiac arrest, has about 21% chance of survivability, in Australia.  In other locations around the world, survivability is up to 73%.  We know that “bystander CPR and AED activation” has a direct and proven benefit in cases of sudden “out of hospital” cardiac arrest and is clearly making a difference to survivability in other locations around the world. David Glasspool from SA Ambulance Service will deliver the training. Hope you have the time to stay back just that little bit longer this week.

And then the week after, on May 6th, it’s the Bike Station Milang Open GSR. Another classic race, and promising to be a great day on the bike. See Flyer for information. More details shortly.

Extreme Heat 28 January – RACE CANCELLED

SDVLCC Club handicap 28th Jan CANCELLED

As indicated by David’s post a few days back, the club race day committee has referred to the Club’s Extreme Weather Policy and based on the forecast temperature for Sunday morning, we are not left with any option but to cancel the race on Sunday. Apologies if this causes any issue for members, but we have policies for a reason, and in this instance, there is no wiggle room.

The opportunity is now there to get an extra week of training in before the State and Club Criterium Championships at Victoria Park on Sunday 4th Feb. Nominations are via the SAMCA website, and payment is made on the day at registration

Membership Renewal

Members can now renew their Racing Licence for 2018.  If you have forgotten your username and password, please do not send an email to AVCC Secretary Mel Davies for the information – Mel can’t help and will point you back to the Club.  As you can expect this only adds work for everyone!
* If you’ve forgotten your username and/or password, or if you need any other help, contact Membership Registrar (Pat O’Kane) or Treasurer (Richard Tormet) .
* You must have a licence before you can race in 2018 – applies to CAMS, club road races, and criteriums.
* It’s also a good time to confirm your correct Emergency Contact details.  Please note you can’t be your own Emergency Contact!

Thanks All – best wishes for the season and 2018.

Club Presentation Day Handicap 17th Dec

A big thanks to everyone who contributed to making our last race of the year a huge success. The club is blessed to have so many wonderful people willing to contribute their time and effort to putting on some of the best Vets racing on offer in S.A.

Congratulations also to all the worthy trophy winners for this year. I have posted photos of the winners in the gallery section under the Information tab.

Safe cycling, and see you all in the New Year. Who is going to win the “Most Improved” and “Best and Fairest” next year? Now there’s a New Year’s challenge for you!!

Wishing you and your loved ones, a safe and happy Christmas from us all on the 2018 committee.

Southern Joinery Sponsors SDVLCC Open 19 Nov

Once again member Kerry Smart and Southern Joinery (Reynella) sponsored an SDVLCC Open race!  On 19 November, Southern Vets and SAMCA promoted the Southern Joinery (Reynella) Graded Scratch Races.

The race was successfully and safely completed, but it was a tough race on a warm and windy day.  Congratulation to all riders and thanks to all officials who helped make the race possible.

We are grateful to Kerry and his team for their ongoing support of our Club and recommend SJ(R) for all your joinery services -‐ including kitchens, domestic and commercial work.

**Please note that SAMCA 2017 Consistency Awards presentation took place after the race**

SAMCA RR Champs 17 Sep

AHMCC, who are promoting 2017 SAMCA Road Race Championships out of Mt Torrens next Sunday 17 September, advise that all races will be RACE NEUTRAL to the top of the first climb out of Mt Torrens.  The aim is to prevent groups breaking up so early in the race and to encourage more entries.

Make your entry via the SAMCA website before 9pm Wednesday evening 13 September.

See attached FLYER for details.

Southern Vets 2017 Community Donation

In line with Southern Vets policy to support a local community organisation each year with a significant donation, Kangarilla CFS accepted $1000 from the Club on 7 August as our 2017 recipient.  President David Milne, Secretary Frank Schoen and Treasurer Richard Tormet fronted up on a dark and cool evening to make the presentation.

Subsequent to the presentation, David was able to re-connect one of the CFS members, Bob Sadleir, with his old friend and past Southern Vet stalwart Steve Hazell, who has lived in Japan for a number of years.  Another service Southern Vets has provided!

Robert Freak Thank You and Invitation 31 Aug

On behalf of Robert Freak:

Firstly I want to acknowledge what a terrific club Southern Vets is in caring for its members.  It is now three years since my accident.  How much I appreciate the Southern Vets riders on that day who did CPR and kept me alive, and all those who have contacted or visited me during the 15 months in the three hospitals, as well as since I’ve come home, and of course those who came to my birthday party.
I would like to shout a coffee & muffin at morning tea (10.30 am) on Thursday 31 August at the Glenelg coffee spot Crema to whoever turns up.
I then intend and feel ready to visit the crash site for the first time.
Thank you to all of you and I look forward to getting to some more races.
